Our first advertiser

Posted on September 13th, 2010 by ANNA Magazine

Advertisers play a significant supporting role in the success of a magazine and this being our first bog entry I decided to pay special tribute to our very first advertiser! De Luca’s on Portage Avenue.

People often ask me about our connection and the truth is, my affair with De Luca’s began the moment I ever walked through their front doors. Somewhere in the aisles between the proscuitto and spicy eggplant, I fell in love. With the energy, the beautiful ingredients, the romantic language, the feeling of family, friendship and traditions.

De Luca’s played a significant role in the success of ANNA Magazine from the beginning, in fact their ad is on the very first page of my sketch book. I remember the first time I met Marco De Luca; taking him through my ideas and sketches and proposing to him how we could showcase their products. He always loved my ideas and through the years we worked together to create many beautiful campaigns, which have graced the pages of ANNA Magazine! De Luca’s really set the stage for so many advertisers to follow!

Our relationship with De Luca’s is very special. Tony, Marco, Carla, Felicia, Vince, John, Paulo and Frank, thank you so much for your kindness and generosity, you will always have a special place in my heart.

Here are a few of the many beautiful campaigns we have created for De Luca’s. We hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed creating them. Visit De Luca’s at their Portage Avenue store or online at deluca.ca.

The ANNA Blog

Founder and Creative Director, Mari Loewen, after much soul searching, found herself at the age of 40, realizing the lifetime of sketches and ideas could be something more. The idea of a magazine seemed daunting and exciting all at the same time, and after much brainstorming, a concept presented itself. A unique marriage of food and inspiration, with simple beautiful recipes, exceptional design, beautiful photography and luxurious paper.

As much of the magazine’s inspiration came from Mari’s own family traditions, it was named ANNA, after her Mother. As a frugal homemaker, she used only fresh local ingredients and took the time to make things special. Long before organic became fashionable, Mari was privileged to enjoy this way of life. Although named after her Mother, her father's entrepreneurial spirit that taught her anything is possible. Today, ANNA Magazine sells throughout North America.
